8 Common Doubts about Alexa That You Probably Have

Alexa is a voice assistant that can answer questions, play music, and control various other devices. Amazon initially developed it in 2014, and since then, it has been one of the most popular voice assistants. As a result, people have asked many questions about Alexa, and we will answer some of the most common questions.

1. What’re the Alexa lights meaning?

Yellow light means that you have an Alexa message or notification. You may say, “What notifications do I have?” or “What messages do I have?” for more information about your recent activity on Alexa.

Cyan or blue light means that Alexa is listening. The light ring flashes when Alexa has heard the request and is processing it.

Red light means that the device’s microphone is off, and Alexa is not listening. Press it again to activate the microphone.

The orange light means the device is trying to connect to the Internet.

Green light: The blinking green light means you are receiving a call. If the green light turns off, the device is on an active call or in an Alexa drop-in session.

Purple light: When ‘Do Not Disturb’ is enabled, the light turns purple for a few seconds after the request has been accepted. The purple color during the initial setup indicates any problems with your Wi-Fi network.

2. What can Alexa do?

Alexa can do many things like answering any question you ask and playing music from your favorite artists or playlist. She can also set alarms, check the weather forecast, smart control devices around your house (lights or locks), order food through services such as Amazon Restaurants, and many more.

3. Can Alexa answer complex questions?

Alexa can answer simple, straightforward questions about topics it knows about. Alexa will respond with a web search result if the question is more complicated.

4. Is it possible to disable Alexa’s listening mode?

Yes, you can turn off the listening mode by pressing and holding the microphone button on your device for 7 seconds or turning on the Do Not Disturb mode from the app settings.

5. How does Alexa know what I want?

Alexa listens for a wake word or triggers set up in advance. It then starts streaming audio to the cloud and sends information such as your device ID and voice input to Amazon’s servers to process your request and return a response.

6. How do I find my device’s ID number?

If you don’t know your device ID, open the Amazon Alexa app and click on Settings. On the next screen, click on Device Setting.

7. How do I get a list of skills on my skill store?

Open the Alexa app and click on Skills, then select “Skills and Games” in the upper left corner of your screen. Next, tap ‘Discover’ and ‘Categories.’ Finally, you can tap the skill you want to know more about and enable a skill.

8. Alexa records conversations?

Reports have shown that the Alexa personal assistant sometimes inadvertently records conversations, but it’s not meant to. But if you want Alexa to answer your questions, play music or tell a joke – all you need is to ask. Privacy is built into the device, so you can control how much your microphone is used. But, if you have any questions, then you can review your voice recordings and delete those that are no longer needed.
